Q: What training would be appropriate to establish orphanage programs and foster care programs in developing countries?
A: Have open arms and an empty lap.
To serve children at risk I recommend you major in university social work, counseling, or education. But the main qualification is open arms and empty laps!
(Editor’s note: at Urbana 2000 Phyllis gave me this answer as we rode a bus across town.)
A: Look at these organizations. Ask what training they recommend.
Answer from Karin.
There are many organizations working to improve the quality of life for abandoned children in other countries. Each organization has different qualifications for the type of training one needs to work in orphanage and foster care programs.
